The Key to Erebor, a prop replica from Weta Workshop, holds significant lore within The Hobbit film series. Few survived the fiery wrath of the Dragon Smaug when he laid waste to the Dwarf realm of Erebor beneath the Lonely Mountain. Among the unexpected survivors were King Thror and his son Thrain, who escaped through a secret passage. Centuries later, this key, designed by Concept Art Director John Howe and created by the 3Foot7 Art Department in Wellington, New Zealand, found its way into the possession of Thorin Oakenshield, the heir to Erebor. Crafted from metal (Zinc Alloy) and presented on a polyurethane stand, the Key to Erebor is large and weighty, conveying its importance as the key to the back door of a lost Dwarven Kingdom. As part of a range of high-end authentic prop replicas from The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, this piece pays homage to the rich storytelling and craftsmanship of the filmmaking community in Wellington, New Zealand. Note that slight variations may occur in the hand-finished props, as each is unique. This prop is part of an open edition and measures approximately 2.4 inches in height, 5.1 inches in width, and 1 inch in depth (6 cm x 13 cm x 2.5 cm).
