Jens Hansen the Ringmaker
Jens Hansen's hand-forged designs bear an unmistakable signature, meticulously crafted to withstand the test of time and be cherished across generations. Each piece of Jens Hansen jewelry is a unique and precious creation, designed to be worn and enjoyed. This straightforward ethos yields imaginative pieces that seamlessly blend affordability, embraceability, and adoration. It's this very ethos that led New Zealand filmmaker Peter Jackson to enlist Jens Hansen to design and craft the Movie Ring* for his cinematic adaptations of J. R. R. Tolkien's revered works, "The Lord of the Rings™" and "The Hobbit™" books.
Jens, originally hailing from Denmark (pronounced 'Yens'), transplanted himself to Auckland, New Zealand in 1952, where he honed his craft through a traditional jeweler's apprenticeship. In 1960, he marked his artistic journey with a solo exhibition at the New Vision gallery. His journeyman years took him to Copenhagen, where he worked with the Royal Danish Court Jewellers, A. Michelsen. In 1968, Jens settled in Nelson with his wife Gurli and his first son, Halfdan. Additional historical details can be found towards the conclusion of this page.
While we're well aware that the famous books revolve around The One Ring, Jens and his son, goldsmith Thorkild Hansen, went on to craft over 40 variations of the Movie Ring* for the film adaptations. These were meticulously tailored to different scenes and sized to fit their various owners. They ranged from smaller solid gold renditions that perfectly adorned Hobbits' fingers to the 8-inch ring, which famously featured in the prologue of "The Lord of the Rings," whirling and twirling through the air.
The Jens Hansen Replica Rings have been meticulously crafted with the same devotion, ardor, and craftsmanship as the original iconic pieces showcased in "The Lord of the Rings" and "The Hobbit" trilogies on screen.
