The Burglar Contract of Bilbo Baggins holds a unique and fascinating history. Originally, after the unexpected and impolite arrival of rowdy guests (or intruders) at Bag End, Bilbo Baggins found himself presented with this remarkable document by Thorin Oakenshield and his band of Dwarves.
This Contract, an essential and demanding piece of work for Thorin Oakenshield, outlines a perilous and adventurous undertaking that few hobbits would willingly embark upon. However, Bilbo, initially hesitant to accept the role of Chief Burglar, eventually proves his worth and courage.
Handcrafted by the skilled calligrapher and artist Daniel Reeve, renowned for creating the iconic original contract used in The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, this authentic prop replica carries a sense of history. The meticulous process involves digitally printing Daniel's original script onto five separate pieces of high-quality watercolor paper for each contract, which is then carefully die-cut to shape. To maintain the utmost authenticity, the same paper used in the films is employed.
Endorsed by Gandalf the Grey as suitable for Bilbo's purpose, the Conditions of Engagement ensure that he fulfills his role as the Chief Burglar with utmost dedication. Despite its initially substantial size, the contract has been scaled down to a more manageable 3:4 scale, preserving all the legible text, including the intricate fine print.
Crafted with remarkable attention to detail, the Burglar Contract is a true work of art. It has been meticulously stitched by hand, with the thread secured by wax seals, replicating every crease and roll present in the original film prop made by the 3Foot7 Art Department. Enclosed within a Collector's Edition cardboard box, the contract is elegantly tied with a ribbon, creating a captivating piece of memorabilia. As an owned item, it holds a special place in the heart of its fortunate owner, commemorating the adventurous spirit of Bilbo Baggins and the epic journey he undertook.
